Are you afraid of dying?
Don't be ! 
I went through the dying process once but didn't quite make it, I guess it wasn't my time.
But I learned a secret - nobody dies. There's absolutely nothing to fear.
It's a very easy process in itself, not muc different than going to sleep at niht and starting to dream. 
It's actually a lot harder to be born than it is to die.
It's impossible to die in the fullest sense of the word like a permanent loss of consciousness.
There might be a temporary loss of consciousness, but certainly not a permanent one.
Your body dies of course, but your body is not you, it is just a temporary vehicle to allow you to get around in the physical world for however long a life span you've been allocated.
For some, that is short, sometimes very short, and for others very long.
Then it is cast off because it wears out, like an old suit of clothes.
We are all in reality eternal spirit beings, born into the flesh for various reasons - for lessons to be learned that can be learned in no other way, but needed if we are to advance on our spiritual journey. 
Your religion can be a factor but not a necessity.
The heavenly state has to be earned by a lot of hard work and determination to do better, always striving to improve ourselves, to become a better person,
It is not handed to you on a silver platter just becauce you believe in Jesus, or Buddha, or Muhammud.
You have to earn every step of the way,
As you sow, so shal you reap - whether good works or bad.I is by your works you sall be known.
And Faith without works is as tinkling bells.
The bad guys of our society will pay a heavy price because all of us -- both good and bad take who we are with us when we die.
Those in turmoil and negativity, who are constantly angry and hateful, from the mean-spirited, to the most evil among us, will take that hellish state with them when their body dies, No sudden enlightenment.
By the same token thos who have always expressed kindness and helpfulness and generosity of spirit will take that heavenly state with them.
Heaven is neither here nor their, said the master,
It is within.
